Preschool Graduation, Soccer, a Trip to the Zoo, and the QC Criterium

The kids received these shades from the prize center at Awana. They came just in time for our Florida trip.  They kids really like Awana and Eric and I certainly appreciate them learning about Jesus from another source other than church school and ourselves. Both kids enjoy attending each Tuesday evening. It doesn't operate during the Summer but will start back up again in September.

The Saturday before we left for Florida was SUPER DUPER rainy and yucky out so we decided to do a couple of house projects. Kennon always likes to help Daddy out.

Maddox had dance recital pictures back in April.  I somehow forgot to post these....in fact all the pictures above too somehow didn't get posted.  She had fun getting dressed up in her bumblebee costume as well as putting on makeup!! The pictures turned out great and she is very excited for the recital this weekend.

These are some of Maddox's closest buddies in her class….Rowan, Kalyn, Inika.  Kalyn will be in her class next year which we are excited about!

The kids played their last soccer game of the Spring season last Saturday. It was a special day as Grandpa Jim and Grandma Jean got to come over and see some of the kiddos' moves!!  You can see Maddox with her hands in the air behind the coach in the green shirt…she just scored!! Kennon has the bright green shin guards on.

Now you can see her…doing the 'YES…I scored gesture!'

Maddox taking the ball down the field to score!! Go Maddox Go!  I believe she scored 3 times this game. Poor Kennon got injured about 1 minute in and didn't play much after that.  We are excited for them to both participate in a British soccer camp that comes to town this summer.  We are considering switching leagues in the fall to a more advanced group.  They both really love to play and seem to have improved in their skills over the years.

After the soccer game we hopped in the car and headed south to Keokuk for cousin Kelby's  high school graduation party! The kids had fun playing with the other kiddos at the party as well as eating dipped goodies from the chocolate fountain!! It was nice to meet Kelby's other side of the family. A quick but nice trip. Congratulations to Kelby and to Maddox and Kennon's other cousin, Brandon, who graduated from medical school the same weekend.

Last Sunday was sort of the first warmish day and the kiddos wanted to do SPRINKLER! They had a grand time and Priya came over to join them.

Kennon graduated from 3 year old preschool last Wednesday and did so with a program. He did a great job…smiling and singing all the songs and doing the correct actions at the right time. I can't believe he is going to 4 year old preschool in the fall!

He is fourth from the left in the yellow shirt.

He was trying to tell me something as he walked out of the sanctuary.

I think this was 'Mom!!…where is my card for Mrs. Lindauer..??' his teacher.

Getting a hug from Mrs. Lindauer  - his lead teacher!! With a photo bomb from an adorable classmate!

Kennon and Mrs. Powell, another one of his teachers.

Maddox also had her graduation program last week and was so excited to sing sing sing. She loves to sing and you can see from the videos below that she could barely contain herself from dancing. She loves to sing and dance. She did a great job. She is a joy to watch perform. I'm very proud of her.

Walking up the graduation stairs to get a hug from her teachers as they called her name.

Kennon got to come to Maddox's program…so he got in on the picture taking!

Maddox had her last official dance class last Wednesday. This week she has 3 separate rehearsals. One at the museum and then two at the recital hall! It is going to be a busy week. But she is so excited and I'm really proud of her.

My beautiful dancer.

We celebrated the end of the school year with a trip to the zoo last Friday. It was a beautiful day so we invited a few neighborhood friends, packed a picnic lunch and brought plenty of patience…..as the zoo was very crowded with school bus groups!  But, we had a grand time.

Maddox on Snowflake…her new favorite horse. Her favorite horse last year was Doughboy…but Doughboy seems to have disappeared??

Kennon on Winnie.

Both Maddox and Kennon got to feed the giraffes.

Family picture compliments of my good friend Kim who came along with us.

Priya and Maddox in the u-haul moving van.
I got to handcraft 3 dozen of these little guys out of fondant this afternoon!!  I'm putting them atop a bed of grass green buttercream on individual cupcakes.  I think they turned out adorable.  So cute. Maddox is going to love them after her recital.  Warning....to those eating these desserts...not so tasty!!  But adorable.  Fondant just doesn't begin to match up to sweet, soft and sugary buttercream. Also, I did have an extra set of  talented hands from my fabulous husband who  I put in charge of antennae details :)

After the bumblebee 'workout' we woke the kids up from nap and headed down to the Quad Cities Criterium in the Village of East Davenport. What an incredible event!! So great and so fun to teach the kids about bicycle racing...not that I'm really interested in them doing it long term...it is EXTREMELY dangerous.  yikes!! We signed both the kids up for the kids' race, got their numbers pinned on and they were ready to go. This year they were in different divisions so I went with Kennon and Maddox with Eric. They both did so well!! Such a fun time!!  The course is lined with the spectators who just cheered on the women's pro race and by 3:30pm they have all had a fair amount of alcoholic beverages so there is a quite a cheer for the kids as they come up the hill.

Kennon getting ready to take off.

A very friendly and happy bystander offered to take Kennon and I's picture :)

Maddox waiting her turn in her coral behind us. Third from the right.

Post race- that medal around their neck was a certificate for a free ice cream cone at the local creamery in the Village called Lagomarcinos!! Yummy. The best part of this free event.

After their cream we hung around to watch the final race of the day..the men's PRO.  They literally FLY by you at amazing speeds.  SOOOO dangerous but looks so fun. All the colors whizzing by, pushing wind into your face. The kids couldn't get enough.  They loved watching the cyclists go by each lap and cheered for the ones at the back of the pack.  Such a fun day!

Go KTK Go!

Maddox's Our Savior Preschool performance. She is the farthest to the right...the rather animated one!! I love it!
