Keokuk and St. Louis

So most of you know we had a traveling Labor Day weekend. We left Friday evening and headed to Keokuk to spend some time with Grandma Doris and the rest of the Keokuk clan. Maddox was enamored with Grandma Doris. She would wander around the house saying 'Where Grandma at' time after time if Grandma happened to step outside or be somewhere other than right at Maddox's beckon call. It was really cute. She shortened Grandma Doris to just Grandma!! So it looks like Grandma Kies had won the token title of Grandma!! We watched the Iowa game and just hung out together on Saturday complete with a visit to Rand Park where Maddox very successfully played on the BIG KIDS park equipment, including the big twirly slide. It was nice to see Aunt Lora, Uncle Jim, Aunt Lori and cousin Kelby. Sorry to have missed Uncle Bryan and cousin Chelsea...we'll catch ya at the holidays. Sunday morning we loaded up the kids and headed south to St. Louis to celebrate cousin Hannah's 13th birthday. I can't believe she is that old already! It was a LOVELY party and Maddox certainly tried to help herself to the center of attention as you can see from the pictures. We got to see Grammy Marti, Grandpa Dick, cousin Hannah, Aunt Diane, and Uncle Brian plus a lot of other friends/family of the Gillaspie family. It was quite the shindig complete with Brian's traditional homemade banana ice cream, which Maddox LOVED. We stayed over in St. Louis Sunday night and then headed back to the Quad Cities Monday. It was a long drive back north but we kept the troops somewhat happy with an hour long stop in Lincoln, IL at a McDonald's that had a play land. Maddox is still transitioning at Kindercare. All her teachers report to us that she is having '
good' days despite the drop off crying. I stopped in last week during the day and she was happily playing and getting along fine with the other kids. So I know when we leave she is fine and really enjoying her new school and friends. She now no longer cries at pick up which is good. And she is learning so MUCH. She even came home with a BEAN plant last week!! September is family month in Maddox's room. Which basically means they'll be studying/talking about anything that has to do with families during the month of September. We have to bring in some pictures of our family to aid in her learning. We have sort of had a role reversal in regards to 'happy' kids lately. Kennon still is the most smiley, happy, cooing baby. He barely cried the entire time we were gone this weekend. He is still sort of so so on his sleeping, occasionally sleeping till 4 or 5 but he was up at 2.30 this AM. He is doing well at Kcare and even slept in the crib for like 40 minutes yesterday despite all the kiddo noise. He is no longer the youngest there. Apparently a new little girl started yesterday. We have to bring family pictures to Kennon's room too. They have photos posted all over the room of the infants and their family members. Maddox has turned into a terror lately. She is having terrible crying spells at home for no reason at all, and is still VERY defiant about changing diapers, brushing teeth, eating, picking up her toys, and in general listening to us. It is quite frustrating. Eric and I are thinking it is just the terrible 2's. We are hoping she'll outgrown it soon. We are looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend. We are planning to have lunch around 1pm on Saturday after Maddox gets up from her AM nap. You all are welcome anytime and can stay as long as you want. I just didn't have time to get invitations out this year, sorry!
